{POTD} Sun bathing Flowers

Its been a little over a week now since I originally took this photograph.  I had originally captured this photograph in color with my digital camera.  But once I got back to my digital darkroom (aka my computer) I realized how stunning this photograph would be in black and white.  What makes this photograph stunning in a monochrome tone is how the light falls on the photographic subject, the flowers.

The sun was just beginning to rise as I snapped this photograph of the flowers.  You can see shadows on the ground as well.  Areas of light and dark are what you want to capture when composing a good photograph in monochrome.  After doing a little cropping and adding a frame, I knew I wanted to save this photograph for release on a Monday for the Monochrome Weekly blog meme.

If you would like to purchase products featuring this photographic print, I have made them available for a limited time in my Cafe Press Shop.

Ruby Tuesday

Red just pops out at you.  It says boldly, “Here I am!” Perhaps I love ruby red because ruby is my birthstone.  Many advertisers use red in their ads to attraction your attention.  Get you to act on whatever they might be selling.  Here is a little excerpt from about.com of the Meaning of Red…

Nature of Red:

A stimulant, red is the hottest of the warm colors. Studies show that red can have a physical effect, increasing the rate of respiration and raising blood pressure.

The expression seeing red indicates anger and may stem not only from the stimulus of the color but from the natural flush (redness) of the cheeks, a physical reaction to anger, increased blood pressure, or physical exertion.

Culture of Red:

Red is power, hence the red power tie for business people and the red carpet for celebrities and VIPs (very important people).

Flashing red lights denote danger or emergency. Stop signs and stop lights are red to get the drivers’ attention and alert them to the dangers of the intersection.

In some cultures, red denotes purity, joy, and celebration. Red is the color of happiness and prosperity in China and may be used to attract good luck.Red is often the color worn by brides in the East while it is the color of mourning in South Africa. In Russia the Bolsheviks used a red flag when they overthrew the Tsar, thus red became associated with communism. Many national flags use red. The red Ruby is the traditionalFortieth Wedding Anniversary gift.

Using Red:

Use the color red to grab attention and to get people to take action. Use red when you don’t want to sink into the background. Use red to suggest speed combined with confidence and perhaps even a dash of danger. A little bit of red goes a long way. Small doses can often be more effective than large amounts of this strong color. Multiple shades of red and even pink or orange can combine for a cheerful palette.

Look at the use of the Color Red on the Web to find which of the named colors in the red family are the most attention-grabbing, mysterious, friendly, sophisticated, or mentally stimulating.

So when I was passing through the blogosphere and I saw this post about Ruby Tuesday I knew I just had to join in on the fun.

{POTD} 6/19/09 Friday’s Flowers

Friday is here at last.  I survived one week {so far} with the kids home.  Will I make it through the entire summer {that remains to be seen}.  Today my kids, daughter’s boyfriend and I are traveling down to the Los Angeles area to spend the day with my mother and step-dad.  I figured I would travel today and visit early for Father’s Day so that hubby can have a Father’s Day at home without having to travel and deal with traffic.  Though he seriously owes for the diabolically that occurred on Mother’s Day {but that was last months story}.

So for today I will take a break from my on-line blogging friends and spend some quality time with the family while snapping pictures of the kids in the pool.  Sorry, I will not be getting into a bathing suit this summer season.  I leave you with a collection of flowers to remember the spring as summer is only a few days away and that means the summer heat will be on and the flowers will be gone.  Have a scent-sational

Picture of the Day 06/03/09

I really need to get out and take some new pictures.  I am running out of pictures to post.  So as I searched through my collection, I came across this not so great picture.  Played around with editing techniques and found a better picture within my not so great picture.  What do you think readers?  What would you like to see me post?  I am ready for the challenge and fun of it all.
